[ale] Slack 9.1 and the emu10k1 drivers...

I'm having trouble getting the emu10k1 drivers working with Slack 9.1-
the alsa drivers as well (the snd-emu10k1).  For some reason I keep
getting these messages whenever I try to load the driver modules:

root at monster:/home/dabaron# modprobe snd-emu10k1

failed

Anybody have a clue as to what's going on here?
