I've actually located a company that recycles CD media in bulk. You pay to ship it to them, and they claim to separate the ingredients for reuse.
I announced that at an ALE meeting last year, and was greeted with a collective yawn. My personal stack of useless CDs has grown to 4" high, and with a good office cleaning could easily reach 6".
