There was a Slashdot post yesterday that stated that the original premise was that the human minds were used for a giant cluster. That it was changed for the public who they believed wouldn't get it. I'll post a link if I can find it later today.Â
Movie is well worth the 7 bucks by the way.

Same here. I think "The Matrix" is one of the best SF films
ever made (and a pretty damn good martial-arts flick too),
aside from the patently stupid premise of machines using
humans for power. I always rationalize that part away by
assuming that by "power" they really mean "computational
capacity" - as in "Powered by Intel" :-P
Hmm... "Humans Inside"....
