System Support Specialist I

The Office of Information and Instructional Technology, an office of the
Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia located in Athens,
Georgia, is currently accepting applications for a System Support
Specialist. Under limited supervision, the individual will install and
configure desktop computers and other technology applications according to
established specifications, working as a junior member within an
established team. Upgrading operating systems and application software,
troubleshooting problems and providing end user assistance are also
requirements of this position. Desktop operating systems include Microsoft
Windows 2000 and XP, with some Macintosh OS 9 and X. Local area network is
TCP/IP based. Locally provided services over the network (email, web,
etc.) are open standards compliant. The individual must maintain network
security and integrity, and maintain current records of equipment and
networking inventories. This position requires occasional statewide
travel, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related
field or equivalent combination of training and experience is required.
Experience installing, upgrading, and maintaining desktop operating
systems and network communications required. Experience in customer
service is a positive. The individual must have demonstrated effective
written and verbal skills and have the ability to provide consistent
attention to end user requests, and have the ability to work with cross
level and cross functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications: Two years of experience with desktop computing
systems and end user support in a campus environment.

Salary: Starting from $39,000, dependent on qualifications and experience.
Strong benefits package. The position will be open until filled.
