[ale] free bsd vs. linux

so the kernel of free bsd is worked on a little differently than linux,
how is free bsd with supporting grafix, sound, and other expansion cards?
how is it better? im a little curious about it, i was curious tho how it
compaired to linux, i mean for a while ive known about it but my
impression was it was a hard core unix replica that didnt support pretty
features, just mostly command line.. come to think of it i find myself
living in 4 terminals on x anyways... how does free bsd compare?
