is firwire supported in the current 2.4 kernel?

I am thinking about getting an iPod, and with Red Hat 8.1 coming out relatively soon, I am also thinking about removing windows from my home.  I am trying to think of all the things i would normally use windows for, and making sure i have a way to do them in linux, so I will probably have more and more questions like this coming out soon...  i could always use my TiBook to control my iPod i guess...
