There is no decision to be made. TCO, Linux wins hands down.
Stability, again Linux wins hands down.
Most comparisons you will find will be biased one way or the other. The
closet thing I've seen to reasonable was in a recent copy of CPU
magazine. Still, not even they made apples to apples comparison. For
example, the compared the price of windows to SuSE by comparing the cost
of a single license. The difference is:
Load SuSE on 1 box costs the same as loading SuSE on 1000 boxes.
Windows, you're going to buy 1000 licenses.
