That's a good way. I was going to suggest a bootable CD running Linux
with a copy of f-prot and current defs. Mount the win hard drive and run
the scan.

www.f-prot.com/download  free use os the small-business edition for
personal use. I use this on small business servers. At $300, it seems
pricey, but there are no client count limitations like on the windows
server stuff from Norton. Plus f-prot has had the best reputation in my
stuff for a long time for finding bugs reliably. 

Plus they have links on how to use it with Amavis, spamassassin and
samba!
