About a week ago I also had to purchase a new printer. Being the broke college
student that I am I went with the HP DeskJet 3820 and it works just dandy using
cupsys and cupsomatic. It has both parallel and usb connections for "just in
case" I assume.

The Debian hpijs package includes the patch which enables black to be
printed with only the black cartridge (see linuxprinting.org for more info on
that). I did have to go to linuxprinting.org to get the correct PPD though.

Anyway, it was $100 at Best Buy.

All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological
personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the
corruptible. Such people have a tendency to become drunk on violence, a
condition to which they are quickly addicted.
