The epson line of inkjets is very well supported thanks to the gimpprint
stuff. Works under cups and lpr-ng. HP has stepped up to the plate and
has provided excellent drivers for their entire line of deskjets and
laserjets and the others are in the works.
I have an HP Business inkjet 2200 that is completely fabulous. Seperate
ink tanks for each color and separate print heads for each color. It is
fast and looks like a photograph on the right papers. It has a control
panel on the front with an lcd display for controls and ink levels. It
also supports an add on postscript card which supports extra ram and a
second expansion slot for a jet-direct card. I got it at Office Depot
from the their floor model sale for about $225. The newer model also
support an optional duplexing gizmo and a large paper tray.
Epson has a similar type that supports 4 ink tanks to handle the
sub-tones. It also handles large media like 11x17. I can't recall the
model number. The art crowd loves them.
