I'm not sure that restarting pcmcia is sufficient.  The pcmcia drivers are 
kernel modules, so you need to remove them, too.  Use rmmod, or reboot to 
be certain.

Otherwise, I haven't used RH on a laptop in a long while and it has all 
changed.
