[ale] weird problem with Suse 8.2 and Samba

I just went to www.samba.org and downloaded the tarball. Installed from
there via shell not gui so as to learn about what I was doing better.
So far so good. Have XP and 98SE attached to SuSE 8.2 acting as domain
server.

Correct. It is under "network services."
Tip for Van L. L.: Suse seems to be "all about the GUI."
In my brief experience it is easier to set up things like NFS with Suse,
because Yast2 is well designed. Contrarily, I have found it tougher to
do
some command line stuff in Suse because I started on RedHat and the
directories don't match (or something - I am 'like' lost in Suse when it
comes to knowing exactly where things are). Now, surely you do not want
to
retrogress to my Linux Level. I suggest you use the GUI - to get stuff
working (to meet deadlines) and then take the time to find out how to do
it
from the command line.
