I also created a boot floppy when I did the install and that worked. Is the
boot CD for a network install or just another way to do the FTP install?

You can use the CD for a local "ftp" install. There is a way to download all
of the needed files locally, export NFS (which is easier in Suse than ANY
other distro - their GUI NFS wizard gets it right - networking is even easier
than Windows in Suse 8.2) and then specify the path to the file system on the
LAN.

The CD doubles as another way to do the FTP install that you experienced with
the floppy. I am no Linux expert. I feel like I will be an 'eternal newbie.'
However, Suse (and open source video drivers) make me feel competent - and I
actually *enjoy* installing now.

The future?:
One extra feature that would be nice is if I could use Yast2 to pick out each
individual package based on questions like
"Do you want to be able to edit graphics?"
Then after answering all of the questions, the install writes a
configuration.txt file that records everything.
Then, I can just put the CD in a new box (or for re-install), point Yast to
the configuration.txt and walk away from the machine for a highly custom
install. That would be "Dope!"
