A minor data point from the RH part - Same install works for me on PII 
through 1.8GCelery, with an Athelon and Duron tossed in for good measure. 
I really doubt that Suse would open themselves up to that many support 
headaches by optimizing that tightly to the processor.

YMMV of course.
