[ale] mapping UIDs with NFS

Is there a way to translate UIDs between systems.  Let's say I want to NFS 
mount a drive on my system, but the uids on the two systems don't match.  
Is there a way to mount the drive and say "make uid 501 here be uid 123 
there"?

I found someone (http://www.fsl.cs.sunysb.edu/papers/rmap/node1.html) has 
an improved NFS server that can do this, but I would like it in the 
client.  I want the client to convert UIDs before sending to the server.

Does this exist?
