[ale] old school: pty and tty

Off the top of my head, "pty" is a pseudo-terminal device type, typically
used for locally-spawned shells for terminal emulators in a windowed system,
or remote logins.
"tty", OTOH, is (or used to be) for physical dumb terminals attached to the
host.
