[ale] DSL modem problems

When I recently tried to get rp-pppoe running over my Alcatel Home, I
saw similar things. The workaround that made it work for me, was to
plug it in to a hub, rather than directly to the PC. Right now, it
dawns on me that I may have needed a cross-over cable. But there is a
reference in the RP documentation to being sure your NIC is in
10Mbs/Half-Duplex.
