i hate to beat this topic to death, but i have had similar problems.

i tried to upgrade my redhat7.2 machine to redhat8.0 and the install froze every time... the error was "hardware
failure or not enough disk space"... so, i tried a fresh install - same problem.

coincidentally, i have Maxtor hdd's as well (30 and 40 gig). i tried the install on both hdd's and with 2
different cd drives (one dvd and one cdrw). the cdrw is an external usb and the dvd drive is 3 years old. i am
running an AMD XP 1.8 with 256 DDR.

i finally got a full installation completed by starting with a minimum installation and then adding packages a few
at a time. i found that if i tried to install several large packages during a session, i would get the error
message and not be able to continue.

anyway, glad to know that i am not the only one! it is a pain in the neck to install the way i did it, but it will
work if you really want to do it. however, i have since reinstalled redhat7.2 and do not plan on putting 8.0 back
on my machine.
