[ale] Remote X and Mozilla Profile Behavior

I would be suspicious of console environment vs. remote environment.
Not all of the same environment variable are present during a remote
session.
By default, if the username is NOT specified, it assumed to be the same
on the far end of an ssh connection. The ability to select the username
makes for some fun tricks for transferring files between two remote
machine from a third one.
I know there is a different set of shell parameters used when loging in
through a remote connecting device, like a modem, or <shudder> telnet
</shudder>. This is handled with gettys and much black magic script
foo.
