My Dell Latitude CPt 333 under SuSE 7.1 would suspend with no problem.
I had repartitioned and setup one root partition with ReiserFS before I
ever understood what the strange looking partitioning by Dell meant.
The suspend worked even directly from inside X. Maybe Iwas only going
to sleep and not doing a true suspend to disk. Otherwise, where would
the info have been written? So, sleep mode worked great and suspend
just was tied to sleep mode. I know I've let the laptop sleep for
several days and it still woke up which made me wonder what it was
doing. Remember to check the Linux Laptop page for info if you haven't yet.
Here is a useful link on the 8200:

Another note on Dell laptops. I noticed that fan control is built into
kernels after 2.4.17 or 2.4.18. I haven't had a chance to rebuild the
laptop yet. It currently is 2.4.0 under SuSE 7.1.
