[ale] read volume id from an ISO9660 image file

is there a utility to read the volume id (as set by 'mkisofs -V volID'), 
under Linux? Solaris and windows obviously have it. I am trying to use 
volume id/label as the mount point to mount an ISO9660 image file on 
loopback 
device.
