[ale] ulimit settings

Hi all,

I am looking for some feedback on tweaking ulimit settings.  For starters, I
would like to eliminate core files since I never do anything with them, so
can I just set core file size to zero?  Secondly, how (reasonably) large can
open files be set?  Finally, any recommendations on best practice settings
for pipe size, max user procs, max mem size, stack size, and cpu time?
