Well, for one thing I have seen some wildly inaccurate estimated
transfer times on MacOS. That said, why not a)trying just using a
crossover cable b)popping the G3's drive into the Mandrake box, then
doing the transfer using one of the HFS utils available for linux??
Just a couple of thoughts...
Of course, if you wanted to be REALLY creative, you might build support
for IEEE 1394 into your kernel, then boot the G3 in target mode. Kinda
Rube Goldberg-ish, but possible.
