I don't think the SCO patent claim is relevant for most distributions.
My feeble understanding is that the patent refers to code that used to
be found in the iBC(something) package. It was a separate package that
allowed code from other *nix's to run with out recompilation on older
Linux systems. No one use it except Slackware and Caldera, which is now
SCO. RedHat dropped it back with 5.2

I'm pretty sure that none of that stuff was included into glibc2.x as
that was about the time frame. If glibc2.x has any of that old stuff in
it, we are in a world of problems. That would put SCO on Redmond's
acquisition radar.
