[ale] /etc/passwd-, /etc/group-, etc....

Anyone know what the following files are used for?

/etc/group-
/etc/gshadow-
/etc/passwd-
/etc/shadow-

Please note the '-' at the end.

If they're generated in some way from the regular versions, is there a way
to regenerate them?
