I just found a great way to free up cached ram.

1. Start Mozilla
2. enter www.norton.com in the url bar and hit enter
3. wait about 30 seconds while Mozilla churns on the garbage that
symantecs site spews and sucks up all the available ram while pushing to
old cache stuff off the pile.
4. kill -9 mozilla-bin

Ram usage dropped from 99-100% down to 36% on a 512 MB system
