i think it is painting with too broad of a brush to dismiss all legislators as simply not intelligent enough to understand the issue.   i think a more accurate statement is that very few of them possess the expertise in this realm.  The net result is the same; however, if they possess the intellect, they can be informed, and that is a significant point for future developments.

i totally agree that intellectual property rights are something that need to be protected by law.  Not this law, but some law.  Because some people choose to make their intellectual property freely available does not obligate all to make this same sacrifice.

i guess the big problem is that the only people positioned financially to make any case at this point are the corporations with vested interests in the outcome of the legislation.
