[ale] Future of local group meetings

Sounds like a real discussion of HOWTO-Fight Atlanta Traffic for our
group is in order. ;-)
With the sprawl and traffic problems the ALE-NW has been actually pretty
successful. We've had good meetings and turnouts overall for the
locality. However, I'd like to present an idea to keep cohesiveness and
still allow local meetings to flourish. What if we have a local meeting
one month and a central meeting the next month? That takes the pressure
off the local groups to schedule speakers every month and find a date
for the meeting separate from the main ALE meeting. And, it forces a
central meeting which has always been accessible and popular enough that
there is a large attendance most of the time. Going to the central
meeting is definitely the best place to find out what everyone looks
like. :-) This is just a thought. I heard there was
4 million people now in the Metro area. Hard to believe. I've lived
here in Atlanta all my life so I am a real minority now!
We would need more organization than is present currently:
ALE-NW located at KSU
ALE-E located out I-20E or I-85N
ALE-S located out I-75S or I-85S
ALE-Central located at Emory
ALE-Central could be every month alternating between local and main status
while all the other meetings were every other month.
We'd need volunteers and locations for spearheading each local group. I
would keep the same time and place for all meetings if possible. So
those currently running ALE-Central and ALE-NW would stay the same and
we would need two new groups of leaders to start and maintain the ALE-E
and ALE-S meetings. Of course, this is rough and with the number of
people in the area you could have more local groups. It is really up to
whoever wants to start and maintain a group in a certain area that wins
the short drive prize. I think the blessing of the whole group ought to
play into whether a new local group is started or not. I really want to
promote harmony here and not take away from the presence and clarity of
the current setup. Sincerely,
Dow
