Thanks James.  The "mt" commands work and the correct device is
/dev/st0.  I was trying to use the Kdat program that comes with KDE.  It
seems it is either broken or does not work with my tape drive.  Does
anyone know of another gui frontend for tape backups on a scsi tape
drive?  Free would would be cool of course :-)
