No, but like the Collections classes which also eventually found their 
way into the spec, it was well known.  And adding it in isn't that big 
of a deal.

The same is true for other languages.  Certain libraries become so 
popular that they get sucked in to the language.  Take a look at Python 
as an example.

I agree with that (though I've never met anybody that did anything other 
than IDL-swapping under CORBA).  And while there is nothing 
revolutionary about EJB, it does provide a standard paradigm and set of 
patterns that is quite consistent across products and programmers.

That being said, it is still used far too often when just JDBC is all 
people need.  But purchasing budgets have to be justified somehow.
