[ale] Production Servers

I generally share this sentiment.  IDE isn't really what you want to use
if you care about how fast the server can go.

However, if the money is just too tight, I would avoid the mobo IDE RAID
and use IDE drives and kernel RAID.  My logic there is that the IDE RAID
drivers, even if open-source, aren't going to have anywhere near as many
eyeballs looking at them as is kernel RAID, and it is also my
understanding that the IDE RAID business is doing its RAID tricks in
software anyway, just as the kernel would.

Another alternative, though, would be to use the purpose-built IDE RAID
subsystems like what can be seen at www.raidzone.com.  They actually
stick IDE drives on an external PCI bus.
