[ale] PGP versions

I'm looking at using PGP.  I've installed PGP that comes from Debian.  To help 
others, I was going to post a page on my website with some information about 
PGP and why signing email is important.  However, I'm baffled by PGP 
versions.

The version Debian (woody) installs is 2.6.3ia.  When I google to find the PGP 
home site, I find at least three sites that *appear* to be home sites for 
PGP, but they all have refer to version numbers that are quite a bit higher 
than 2.6 (5, 6.5, 7).

Can someone explain please?
