OpenBSD recommends a minimum of 475 MB + 64 MB for swap for a home system to
connect to the Internet, and use X.  I would guess that Slackware or Gentoo
would be good Linux systems to start.  Of course, you could also use Suse,
pick a minimum install and add stuff from there.
