[ale] NVidia Driver Install - SuSE (mismatched compiler)

There is a entry in the SuSE online help database about mismatched
kernels. What has happened is you've got the Athlon kernel, with it's
config file too, in the /boot directory. However, the kernel source
hasn't got the Athlon config file in it. So you have to copy the
original .config in /usr/src/linux to .config-original. Then copy the
/boot/.config to /usr/src/linux. Now, try installing the Nvidia
drivers. You should have the Nvidia script complete okay. I don't
remember at the moment if there were any other steps but I am pretty
sure there weren't. I was installing VMware 4.x and having the same
problem. I would look up "kernel" on the SuSE online help database at
www.suse.com and just confirm the procedure. If you just recompile then
you would need to be careful with your configuration of the kernel.
