[ale] cron vs shell

That did the trick! Since ssh was NOT sending back the command output,
it sat waiting. The -n told it to redirect to the controlling shell (my
ssh process).

Many thanks! Now if only the java app running on these boxes didn't have
memory leaks all over the place....
