Chris,
Most modems have a brick and actually digest Direct Current
at some voltage between 5v. and 12v. If yours has a brick
with an incompatible plug, you should be able to make it work
after a quick trip to the nearest Radio Shack -- where you can
purchase an adjustable voltage power brick with switchable
positive/negative output. The spec. sheet for the modem *should*
tell you the voltage and polarity. <grin>
