[ale] OT - cell phones

I'm currently a Cingular customer. Since I travel occasionally to
Alabama, I've found it to have the best coverage. No surprise, since it
inherited the infrastructure of the original BellSouth Mobility. I've also
heard that they will be rolling out GSM service to the Atlanta area
sometime this month.

One the one hand, that'll be great since I can get a newer phone with the
latest bells 'n' whistles (Java, for example) and maybe finally have a
halfway-decent mobile web-surfing experience, unlike my current WAP-
"enabled" handset.

On the other hand, a good chunk of the rural network will probably still
speak only TDMA. I'll either need to keep my current handset in addition
to getting a newer, snazzier one (adding an extra $20/mo. to my bill),
or get a GSM/TDMA combined handset that might not be as full-featured.

Or maybe I'll just get a PDA that speaks GSM ...
