Many modern day electronics don't have an  true off switch.  They remain in a 
"low power mode" to respond to IR commands, or something like that (such as 
an impending print job).  While your printer does have a TRUE off switch, 
when it is in "stand by mode", it should use less than a fraction of 1% of 
the power consumption used when it's "hot".  

There are people that think that turning electronics on and off risks harming 
them.  You have to ask yourself, is it worth it save 25 cents a month.
