I spent a little time googling this. There is a huge amount of market 
speak, and social commentary. Pathetically little tech information (as 
yet). I haven't hit the patent stuff.

The coloring process is caused by O2 exposure, so #3 isn't going to help 
any. Storing cold is reported to help, and colder may well be better. N2 
isn't reported (that I know of), but would should be better than cold 
alone. Storing cold under N2 should be very effective, and setting up the 
player in a glove bag/box with a N2 atmospher would be helpfull.

I cann't prove it at this time, but I think the colorant is mixed into the 
polycarbonate directly (not a separate layer). As such, there is no 
separate layer to polish off, cut off, or otherwise remove. So if you want 
to keep the content in violation of the liscence, rip immediately is my 
guess.
