[ale] OT: Stock Traders?

Not exactly day trading (well, once a day trading) but, http://stocksquest.thinkquest.org/C001759/ is a great "simulation" game that allows you to play with fake money in the real market. Get a datek account (without making a deposit) and you can use realtime streaming data to feel like your really doing something. There is also http://www.virtualstockexchange.com/ which is commercial, a little nicer, but has some different rules. Play either and decide which one you like best.

As for your 150.. I don't think that's quite enough to open a roth, but it _might_ be. Check around and see. I know that datek and etrade have a $500 minimum to open an account. If your really serious about wanting to be invested, take that 150 and stick it in a savings account, add to it when you can, and when you get five or six hundred move it to etrade. You won't be able to afford to move it around at all due to commissions and such, but you can buy and hold any number of companies. With that money, I'd suggest something solid, with good fundamentals and possibly something that pays a decent dividend (Come on Tax cut! Go GWB!).

It's fabulous that you want to learn about investing, it really is a facinating subject. For no money at all you can start watching Louis Roukeiser on CNBC (Friday nights, 8:30), Neal Kavuto on Fox News (Weekdays, 4pm) or any number of my other favorite shows.

Another idea for the money, although you may have to still add a few dollars, is to find an investment club. They are kinda like a micro-mutual fund, where a club pools money, picks stocks and holds them as a group. Typicly you will meet every so often to rubber stamp or change your choices, or even hear presentations about companies or just educational stock topics.

Hope this helps.

Anyone here do any day trading as a hoby/investment? I've got a little
($150) I can play with in stock and thinking of just messing with it.
Looking for some tips, good news sites, etc.

Robert
