So did I and was told (at 5:25 pm) that the sub-committee
may meet at 1 pm or at 2 pm in room 216. Apparently there
is some discussion about whether or not to move the
hearing on this bill out of the sub-committee and have it
considered directly by the committee.
This uncertainty is, to me (a former newspaper editor) a
sign of back-room dealings and I absolutely do not trust
it.
Under _normal_ procedures, any bill that has not "crossed
the aisle" on time is automatically dead. That is, there is
a date certain when the House must finish work and pass all
its proposed legislation and send it on to the Senate. Any
bills that have not been passed by the full House by that
date are effectively dead. The same goes for the Senate.
The fact that a House sub-committee has scheduled a hearing
on a bill that should be dead is scary and bespeaks of crooked
politics. The only bills that House committees _should_ be
considering at this late date are bills sent over by the
Senate.
