[ale] configure xsane & usb scanner

Chris, I've got a spare box here I'm going to slap RH 8 on and see if I 
can figure out your problem.  For now, post the output of '/sbin/lsmod' 
so we can see what modules are/aren't loaded.

My scanner is an hp 5200c.
