[ale] Redhat Network

Ryan, you can join the Redhat network for free if you only have 1
redhat machine. Each extra machine requires the signup fee.

It's a pretty neat feature. It tells you what packages are
"vulnerable" and why. In addition you can schedule when they will get
patched.

I'm slowly moving away from redhat these days (thanks to Gentoo; which
is a GREAT distro), but at work I still have my servers (which are
Redhat machines) to maintain. The RHN has been an easy way for me to
do so.

FYI; Redhat 8.0 will be released on Monday (9/30) and it might be
worth "purchasing" a copy from your local store. You'll accomplish 2
things by doing so: 1) support open-source and 2) get a free RHN
subscription (which can be used in cooperation with your "free/trial"
subscription account). It's not a bad deal when you consider the
alternatives (+choke+ WinX9Me8P +choke). Redhat might not be the
"greatest" distro ever; but it's a commercial entity that can speak
for us and that our dollars can influence. As such, I like to support
it. I love Gentoo; and I'm going to try out Mandrake 9 (just
released) this week.  However, I'm as much a capitalist as my fellow Americans;
and as such, I need to support whomever I believe in (or has the
closest values). It sure as hell isn't going to be that "other" company from Redmondnowhereville, Washington.

Just my .02 cents,
-CB
