Your browser interface to cups should allow setting the default printer as
an option under "manage printers". Â Just point your browser to http://localhost:631
and log in as root.

Setting the default printer with the standard KDE printer (GUI) config
is easy. That's what I am still using because I can't make the change
in CUPS.
