[ale] New Laptop and What Version of what?

i have not dealt with combo devices, but my only concern would be the
the cd/rw/dvd combo, well i mean how the rw functionality would work 
together with the dvd functionality
.  suse8 has no prob with dvd drive, probably others would be ok to
