[ale] Accessing Server without Domain Name

1) Can you access the site when you type in localhost or 127.0.0.1?
2) What port is the web server set up on (specified in httpd.conf)? Is that
port open on your firewall for tcp/ip traffic?

Subject: [ale] Accessing Server without Domain Name

I am setting up a Linux / Apache web server for a friend using an old 166
P2. We overcame a few hardware issues like dead CD ROM and Ethernet card
and have a nicely working RH 8.0 system with a very basic Apache server
running.

The system is currently living on my home network, which includes
internet access via Static IP DSL Gateway connected through one of those
little stand alone Router/Firewall boxes.

We would like to access this http server from the internet for testing
before we put it on line with a registered domain name. I _thought_ all I
needed to do was to dial in the static IP address in any web browser, but
that isn't quite working...

Can anyone suggest what I might be missing here?

Thanks in advance!
aaron
