[ale] mounting ntfs

I recompiled the latest kernel from RH (2.4.9-31...the
one that remedies the zlib probs) to support reading
ntfs partitions.
Now, I can mount the partition with "mount -r -t ntfs
/dev/hda1 /mnt/win2k' and it seems to work fine.
However, when I cd into the directory and do an
ls...everything freezes. Only option is to hit the
reset switch. I've verified that ntfs.o is there and
loaded. Can anyone help?
Here's the output from fdisk -l and mount (after
mounting the partition). Note that mount seem to
recognize it...
$ fdisk -l
Device Boot Start End Blocks Id
System
/dev/hda1 * 1 607 4875696 7
HPFS/NTFS
/dev/hda2 608 1215 4883760 f

$ mount

usbdevfs on /proc/bus/usb type usbdevfs (rw)
/dev/hda5 on /boot type ext3 (rw)
none on /dev/pts type devpts (rw,gid=5,mode=620)
none on /dev/shm type tmpfs (rw)
/dev/hda1 on /mnt/win2k type ntfs (ro)
Thanks!
John
