Perhaps you should have stuck with static IP, even if all you do is cop
the one that DHCP would give. I recall from the Gentoo install-a-thon I
tried last week that you are told to edit /etc/resolv.conf. Perhaps
that's a step you can't skip even if you plan to do DHCP later.
Also, IIRC, there's a step in which you have to copy the resolv.conf
from your chrooted installation environment to the "real" /etc - did you
do that?
As for me, I got pretty far with Gentoo only to have it totally flatline
on me with respect to starting X. That's after having the box build KDE
and related apps all night long and part of the next morning. By that
time, I'd had enough! I'll come back to Gentoo later!
