[ale] SCSI Emulation (CD-R)

I think this error is indicative of a missing scsi module, do you have 
the sg module loaded?

Try 'insmod sg'  then cdrecord -scanbus

I didn't have to buy my radio from a specific company to listen
to FM, why doesn't that apply to the Internet (anymore...)?
