Short version:
I am still flailing with my VPN link. It appears that I get through the
initial connection under the 'pptp-commands' script (which exits cleanly),
then have the connection thrown away by 'pppd'.
The VPN server logs two transactions, presumably my entry and subsequent
exit, but no warnings nor errors.
Long version (and a blessing on anyone who gets something useful out of
it):
1. The script window says this:
=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
[root at otter admin]# ./pptp-command start
Route: add -host 192.168.0.101 gw 192.168.0.50 added
Route: add -net 192.168.0.0/24 ppp0 added
All routes added.
Tunnel tga_vpn is active on ppp0. IP Address: 192.168.0.55
[root at otter admin]#
-->>>We are now at point 2.b as shown in the logs<<<--
and the world looks sweet, but:

2. The evidence in '/var/log/messages' is:

2.a Starting the link:

2.b At this point it looks good - I get a 'link established' message along
with the two IPs. The startup script exits clean, then BOOM:
